The clothes we collect actually do not go to Malawi. We collect clothes and sell them at a thrift event in Brooklyn, New York. All the proceeds go to Tingathe, and soon they will go to the new project we’re working on.
The next thrift event will be in the spring! We’ll let you know more as the event approaches.
Thanks for your support,
CC
“In the small East African country of Malawi, over 30,000 infants contract HIV from mother to child transmission. Of these children, over 50% will die before the age of two years, and over 75% will die before the age of seven.”

Clothing Cures teamed up with beacon clubs including Project Able, Gay Straight Alliance, Sexual Health Initiative and Landmine Relief Club to promote World AIDS Day which is today, December 1st. We all spent Wednesday evening making poster copies and putting them up all over the hallways. The posters were of different HIV/AIDS statistics of New York City, Kenya, Nepal and Malawi. None the posters mentioned HIV/AIDS in order to provoke thought. Tomorrow, we will make an announcement about the World AIDS day poster to inform our peers. NEW PROJECT!
Here is a picture of Lynn and Miari working on the new project via iChat Video Chat meeting.
Sorry we haven’t posted in a while. We’re trying to get back to using this regularly again. We’re currently working on a new project. It’s gonna be big!
The new project involves the education of young girls and women in Malawi. We can’t say too much right now— everything is still in the works. We’ve been working on this idea for a while and we have finally been given the opportunity to go forth with it. It looks like it’s finally coming around! We’re so excited, and we can’t wait to give you all more information as it comes.
By the way, if you’ve been wondering about our thrift event, there’s another one coming soon— we’ve been working on that too. Things have been slow because all four of us are incredibly overwhelmed with balancing senior year and the college process.
Clothing Cures has been MIA for awhile and we apologize about that!
We are in the midst of teaming up with a Microbiology class, Sexual Health Initiative club, and Project A.B.L.E in our school to have a big event on World AIDS Day, which is December 1st.
We also want to start visiting boutiques in our neighborhood that would be willing to sell things made by women we support in Malawi.
Hopefully, we will have more good news in the near future.
Thank you!

Letter from World Altering Medicine (where we donated to)
June 9, 2010
Clothing Cures
Dear Lynn, Miari, Samantha and Demi,
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! On behalf of World Altering Medicine, we want to thank you for your generous gift of $1295.74 to World Altering Medicine’s Tingathe Community Outreach HIV/AIDS Fund. We are so grateful to Clothing Cures for your phenomenal efforts to help those in need in Malawi. Your kindness and heartfelt efforts have proved what we already know to be true—that small gestures of compassion CAN change the world.
As you know, Tingathe is a community outreach program in Malawi to help achieve an HIV-free generation, in a country where over 30,000 infants contract HIV from mother-to-child transmission. Tingathe means “Yes we can” in Chichewa, and this program empowers and trains Malawians to serve as community health workers in their own communities.
Your support will allow World Altering Medicine to further our vitally needed work to prevent and control HIV-AIDS in Malawi and also help empower and mobilize the community. Thank you so much for your generosity in helping provide this vitally needed care.
World Altering Medicine, which provides supplies and life-saving medical care to patients in need in the developing world, is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Your donation is 100% tax-deductible. World Altering Medicine confirms that no goods or services were provided in return for this donation.
Thank you for helping us alter the world one life at a time. Yes we can!
World Altering Medicine

Finally, the donation has been made! Sorry it took so long!
A total of $1295.74 has been sent to the Tingathe Outreach Program on behalf of Clothing Cures on June 7th, 2010.
Let’s all hope that it helped in making a significant difference in the lives of the women and children in Malawi.
Also, remember that this was an accomplishment not done by just us four but our whole community.
We’d like to take this time to thank some people:
M.S.51, C-Town, Laundromats on 5th&7th Avenue, all our parents, Kristen Robbins, Ms.Berner, Tea Lounge, Neergaard, and everyone who came to the event.
Many people don’t act to save a child or ease suffering because they worry that small acts of kindness don’t make a difference. We believe that small gestures of compassion really can change the world. -World Altering Medicine (where we donated to)
We felt this quote really defines our organization. Our community, friends and family all helped us little by little. That is what concluded to our successful outcome. It’s not always about donating millions of dollars or doing hands-on work; little decisions you make in your everyday life to help out charity will result to amazing things.
WE NOW HAVE BRACELETS! They are blue and have Clothing Cures engraved on them so please buy one to support the organization! Each one is $1.00 and you can purchase them at the Concert Cures benefit concert or through us!
